Brighton Beach
A sandy beach with very few shells that stretches for miles and miles, all the way from South Brighton until Amberly or so. It is interrupted by the Waimakiriri River mouth. Notable feature is the recently re-built pier, which is used for annual fireworks (Guy Fawkes day) and can be fished from.
Popular for kite surfing / plain surfing and just for the stroll. Other regular happenings are an annual sand-caste building competition and kite-flying exhibition
The land has dropped 40cm due to the earthquake in February 2010 and so now the tide comes all the way to the Dunes.
Tossed in the one picture below - fantastic full moon rising at dusk and then the night shot of the Pier!! The colours below change - clever little arrangement there - they can be all red or not :)
